Odisha archer chosen for Youth World Championship

Odisha teenager Ranjit Naik has been selected to represent India in the Youth World Archery Championship, scheduled to be held at Wuxi (China) from October 13 to 20. Ranjit, a +2 first year Arts students of Bhubaneswar-based Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) was was picked on the basis of his performance in the National trial camp, held at Army Sports Institute (Pune) from September 1 to 3.

He finished third among eight participants, scoring 21 points in the sub-junior boys` recurve category.
Atul Verma (UP) and Binod Swansi (SPSB) occupied the top two positions, securing 30 and 26 points respectively. Raj Kumar Naik, another Odisha archer, finished fifth with 18 points.

Fifteen-year-old Ranjit, who hails from Jadabani village of Mayurbhanj district, and Ra Kumar, earlier received tips from South Korean coach Chae Hong Gi in a five-day preparatory camp held at KIIS campus earlier this month.
Ranjit had won a silver medal in boys` 70m recurve category of the Sub-junior National Archery Championship at Bangalore in January this year.
